Department Mission

Austin Human Resources (AHR) positions the City of Austin as an employer of choice through balanced, efficient, and collaborative strategic partnerships. AHR oversees executive recruitment, compensation, employee benefits, workers compensation, employee relations, and employee safety for the City of Austin. AHR also ensures compliance with state and federal mandates such as Chapter 143 Civil Service and the Americans with Disability Act. AHR supports and develops a high-performing and diverse workforce and fosters a healthy, safe, respectful, and productive work environment for employees and their families, City departments, and the community.

Equip City employees with high quality preventative health services, activities, and programs to support their wellness.
Provide high quality and affordable health benefits to support employees, retirees, and their dependents.
Improve our competitiveness as an employer to attract, efficiently hire, and retain a diverse, highly skilled workforce across the entire City organization.
Ensure city employees are equipped with the tools and resources to facilitate employee development and engagement.
Maintain an efficient and transparent executive recruitment process.
