Department Mission

The Communications and Public Information Office (CPIO) facilitates strategic communication and collaboration between City Council, City departments, and community members to enhance transparency, trust, and shared decision-making.

Department Goals

Provide value to our community by creating timely, meaningful, and equitable opportunities for the public to learn about and engage with the City of Austin and our projects, programs, and initiatives.
Provide value to the organization through consultation, tools, policies, coordination, and support that empower the City of Austin and its communication networks to excel.
Provide value to our employees by ensuring that all levels of the organization are well-informed about both Citywide issues and issues that affect the workplace, thus empowering them to serve as ambassadors to both the public and to fellow employees.

  1. Aggregate internal satisfaction with CPIO services
  2. Percent of media who respond positively in regard to interactions with CPIO
  3. Percent of residents satisfied with City communications
  4. Percent of residents that believe Austin values dialogue between residents and government
  5. Percent of residents who access ATXN programming
  6. Percent of users who find information easy to find on City website
