Department Mission
The mission of the Parks and Recreation Department is to provide diverse programs and experiences to the public by creating sustainable natural spaces and public places in order to inspire Austin to learn, play, protect and connect.
Department Goals
Align accessible and diverse programs and services with community needs and interests.
Ensure the parks system preserves recreational and natural spaces to serve as a respite from urban life.
Expand and improve access to parks and facilities for all.
Activate and enhance urban park spaces to provide flexible and diverse programming.

- Citizen satisfaction with the appearance of park grounds
- Funding from partnerships and grants per dollar of City investment toward capital improvements on parkland (Ratio)
- Percent of citizens satisfied with Parks and Recreation facilities
- Percentage of Parks and Recreation program participants receiving financial assistance
- Percentage of residents satisfied with the overall quality of parks and recreation services.
- Percentage of residents who have access to parks and open spaces (live within one-quarter mile in urban core and within half-mile outside of urban core)
