Department Mission

Transportation and Public Works (TPW) was established to create a centralized department that specializes in transportation-related infrastructure and maintaining the City's right-of-way. The mission of the Transportation Public Works Department is to build and maintain mobility infrastructure for our community. TPW is responsible for a vast range of services, including: maintenance of streets, bridges, sidewalks, and urban trails; roadway signage and markings; traffic engineering; administration and oversight of on-street parking and parking meters; and operation of City-owned parking lots and garages. The Department also oversees transportation systems planning, permitting and coordination of construction and maintenance in the City's right-of-way, and the Safe Routes to School program.

  4. Percent of crosswalks in fair or better condition
  5. Percent of existing sidewalks that are functionally acceptable
  6. Percent of lane miles in the City's street inventory in fair to excellent condition
  7. Percent of major bridges in good to excellent condition
  8. Percent of sidewalk network completed
  9. Percent of signals with properly working detection
  10. Percent of signs in fair or better condition
  11. Percent of the All Ages and Abilities bikeway network completed
  12. Percent satisfaction of Austin Transit Partnership with proactive light rail permitting solutions
