Austin Water (AMI) Meter Services Coordinator

Purpose:
 

Under general supervision, this position serves as the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) specialized technical expert working with internal divisions and external system vendors for optimal operations of the customer billing function.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Diagnoses root cause of interruptions to regular activities of the AMI system and takes corrective action to resolve conditions that are abnormal. Works with the appropriate division or external resource to resolve the issue.
  2. Leads process improvements, monitors, reports, identifies, diagnoses, troubleshoots, and resolves AMI data application and exception process issues related to the AMI Head End System (HES), Meter Data Management Systems (MDMS), and the Utility’s Customer Portal (MyATXWater).
  3. Coordinates and creates AMI service requests and maintenance projects.
  4. Tracks status of projects and prepares accurate and timely translations, reports, and graphs.
  5. Utilizes relevant operational reports to demonstrate trends in AMI network events and incidents and assists in the proactive identification and resolution of incidents to
  6. maintain reliable meter communication.
  7. Performs user acceptance testing for AMI system upgrades and related project work as needed.
  8. Coordinates AMI software application and installation upgrades.
  9. Develops AMI utility process documentation and provides end-user training and support.
  10. Creates, manages, and analyzes inventory queries in support of AMI deployment and regulatory obligations for meters, modules, and field area network devices.
  11. Provides customer relations support to AMI project teams, AMI vendors, and stakeholders.
  12. Assists with responding to inquiries from internal customers.

  • Knowledge of Federal, State, Local laws, and ordinances.
  • Knowledge of City practices, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of leadership and project management techniques, principles, and processes.
  • Knowledge of AMI system operations.
  • Knowledge of technical review and acceptance testing for software and firmware upgrades for AMI systems.
  • Knowledge of water meter types and applications.
  • Knowledge of basic RF propagation transmissions.
  • Skill in utilizing technology, computers, and various software.
  • Skill in pairing Bluetooth communication devices.
  • Skill in communicating technical information to customers.
  • Skill in completing detailed, complex analysis and problem solving.
  • Skill in performing analytics on multiple data sets for quality assurance.
  • Ability to quickly recognize and analyze irregular events.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
  • Ability to work independently and lead teams.
  • Ability to understand vendor specifications and predict their impact on current equipment and processes.
  • Ability to develop and conduct training programs in assigned skill areas.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation with an Associate’s degree in a field related to Management Information Systems or Computer Science, plus three (3) years of experience in implementation, coordination and analytical support of AMI and utility infrastructure projects.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of two (2) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 

Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.
