Forensic Multimedia Specialist I

Purpose:
 

Under general supervision, this position provides high-level audio, video, and digital darkroom processing and other multimedia services within the Forensic Science Department. Applies advanced photography, video, and/or digital imaging techniques to items associated with criminal investigations or court proceedings.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Provides digital or printed forensic casework and administrative images.
  2. Conducts routine image maintenance and quality control.
  3. Performs media conversions and enhancements to support law enforcement investigations.
  4. Creates demonstrative materials for law enforcement and the courts.
  5. Prepares graphics, audio, video, and/or photographic exhibits.
  6. Maintains and operates a suite of still camera, and video equipment.
  7. Supports evidentiary documentation.
  8. Operates photo finishing.
  9. Operates flatbed scanners.
  10. Maintains equipment for and performs audio and video duplication processes.
  11. Processes court ordered expunctions.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
  None.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of various photographic equipment including automatic and manual functions of digital and video cameras.
  • Knowledge of film, photo finishing, color printing equipment and digital imaging processes.
  • Knowledge of proper evidence handling procedures.
  • Knowledge of City practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and ordinances.
  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to determine best method of obtaining photographic picture.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with city employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Associate Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field related to the job.
  • Experience in Multimedia may substitute for education up to a maximum of two (2) years.
  • One-year additional education from an accredited college or university in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
  • Graduation with a Master’s or an academic doctorate degree in a related field may substitute for experience up to two (2) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 

Valid Driver’s License
