Airport Landside Access Agent Senior

Purpose:
 

Under limited supervision, this position serves as the primary liaison in administrative compliance and operational curbside management, on- and off-site parking services, ground transportation services, rideshare services, and all landside access services in support of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) facilities.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Patrols and inspects assigned areas to ensure safe ground travel conditions. Interacts with other divisions, AUS partners, and the traveling public; investigates and resolves internal and external inquiries, ground transportation violations and complaints, and disputes from employees and the public.
  2. Supervises the staging area, i.e., oversees cab vehicles and shuttle buses in the staging area, collects and accounts for ground transportation revenues, balances register when necessary, receives and resolves complaints, etc.
  3. Enforces Federal, State, and Local laws, regulations, and ordinances by issuing citations, warnings, and notice of violations and by conducting inspections.
  4. Investigates landside accident scenes or damage to City property to include interviewing suspects and witnesses, following-up on accidents or incidents by contacting witnesses, gathering and sharing information, etc. Investigates problem areas and responds to security-related incidents, summons law enforcement, and takes corrective action where necessary. Writes technical reports.
  5. Answers emergency and non-emergency phone calls, determines nature of request, and takes messages when necessary. Initiates, enters, and updates the Computerized Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
  6. Monitors vehicle flow on all AUS roadways, directs pedestrian and vehicular traffic, and provides crowd control services.
  7. Conducts identification checks at controlled Air Operations Area (AOA) access points.
  8. Identifies, verifies, and ensures that all persons entering secured areas, restricted areas, Security Identification Display Area (SIDA), and loading dock areas display the appropriate access media, are granted clearance to secured areas, or are under approved escort.
  9. Leads and trains staff and answers questions from staff and the public about airport landside access operations.
  10. Controls commercial ground transportation vehicle parking holding, and loading and unloading. Ensures all required permits, including chauffeur licenses, are current.
  11. Provides customer service to the general and traveling public, AUS and City of Austin employees, and other governmental agencies by performing duties such as providing information using communication devices.

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain Federally-mandated security clearances required to work at an airport.

  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priority.
  • Ability to stay informed of airport operational, safety, and security issues.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
  • Ability to train others.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation with an Associate degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Criminal Justice, Aviation Management, Airway Science, Business Administration, or Public Administration, or in a field related to the job, plus three (3) years of related experience.
  • Any combination of education and work experience totaling five (5) years may substitute for the above minimum qualifications.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver License.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain Federally-mandated security clearances required to work at an airport.
