Airport Landside Access Supervisor

Purpose:
 

Under general direction, this position oversees the day-to-day landside access operations of the airport during an operational shift. This position supervises and provides direction to operational staff who are responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for the traveling public within Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS).

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Oversees all shift activities including the coordination and monitoring of all landside access functions to ensure work is performed in a consistent manner with AUS policies, procedures, and regulations; in accordance with AUS standards; and to ensure the safety and security of passengers, tenants, and employees.
  2. Ensures compliance with all Federal, State, City, and Local regulations, policies, procedures, and ordinances.
  3. Interacts with AUS tenants, ground transportation, parking providers, rental car agencies, rideshare companies, and the public; ensures the delivery of essential customer service and provides problem and conflict resolution.
  4. Reviews logs and reports to ensure accuracy and completeness to include writing of technical reports.
  5. Represents the City on boards and commissions, in meetings, etc. and Airport Management in all aspects of airport landside operations.
  6. Coordinates operations with other divisions and outside contractors.
  7. Conducts divisional needs assessments, assists in the development of short- and long-term goals, and manages projects and objectives, etc.
  8. Conducts comprehensive investigations on incident reports, violations of City Code of Ordinances, airport rules, policies, etc.
  9. Monitors and inspects airport activities, property, and facilities.
  10. Coordinates the airport's response to critical incidents.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
 

Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws.
  • Knowledge of City practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of airport security emergency operations and TSA regulations.
  • Knowledge of general airport operations.
  • Knowledge of good customer relations practices.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.
  • Skill in oral and written communications.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in using computers and related security software.
  • Skill in planning and organizing.
  • Ability to quickly recognize and analyze irregular events.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priority.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of Local, State, and government officials; the news media; and private citizens.
  • Ability to stay informed of airport operational, safety, and security issues.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
  • Ability to train others.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation with an Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with major coursework in Criminal Justice, Aviation Management, Airway Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field, plus three (3) years of work experience in security, airport operations, or a related field, including one (1) year of experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
  • Any combination of education and work experience, including one (1) year of leadership or supervisory experience, totaling seven (7) years may substitute for the above minimum qualifications.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver License.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain Federally-mandated security clearances required to work at an airport.
