Airport Facilities Construction Coordinator

Purpose:
 

Under limited supervision, this position coordinates and leads new construction initiatives, submits building plans to the City of Austin Planning Department, leads installation, repair, maintenance, and remodeling construction projects and activities related to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) facilities.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Acts as a Multi trades master in the coordination and review of work performed by skilled trade personnel to implement AUS’s maintenance program, which includes complex installations, renovations, and remodeling construction activities.
  2. Coordinates activities, material, and equipment necessary to complete assigned or contracted construction projects, and ensures work orders meet client expectations for completeness according to quality standards. Performs various technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
  3. Estimates time, labor, and materials required; maintains records; prepares and submits reports; and inspects and approves supplies.
  4. Develops and administers the preventative maintenance program for all AUS facilities, systems, and assets.
  5. Evaluates, monitors, and controls material inventory that is required for the airport facilities maintenance program.
  6. Inspects construction projects performed under contract for compliance with specifications and reviews plans and specifications for future development and construction.
  7. Manages the workflow and work tasks assigned to operations and maintenance technicians through the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  8. Extracts data from various computer programs to produce reports and evaluate and assess work production/timelines and budget expenditures.

  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of City practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of materials, equipment, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes.
  • Knowledge of proper safety practices, procedures, and regulations.
  • Skill in reading and understanding blueprints.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in planning and organizing.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with City employees and the public.
  • Ability to maintain Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements authorizing unescorted access entry into Security Identification Display Area (SIDA).
  • Ability to safely operate City vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to analyze and estimate time, labor, materials, and costs of repair requirements to ensure organizational efficiency.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Ability to be work in a shift capacity that may rotate or adjust with little notice including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to reads blueprints, specifications, and building codes to ensure assigned construction requests meet specifications and codes.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus four (4) years of experience in general building or facility construction, including one (1) year of experience which was in a lead or supervisory capacity and three (3) years of experience which were in the Aviation industry.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
  • Texas Class C Operator’s License or ability to obtain within ninety (90) calendar days of hire.
