Airport Equipment Technician

Purpose:
 

Under general supervision, this position installs, maintains, inspects, and repairs complex electromechanical In-line Baggage Handling Conveying and Passenger Boarding Bridge systems and equipment at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS).

 

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Installs, maintains, and diagnoses complex electromechanical conveying systems and passenger boarding bridge equipment and system components.
  2. Completes assigned work orders including making materials ready; performing quality inspections; preparing system outage requests; and performing maintenance, repairs, and new equipment installation activities.
  3. Maintains records of repairs, calibrations, and tests and records information in the asset management system (AMS).
  4. Coordinates maintenance, repairs, and system outages with AUS system end-users.
  5. Assists with overseeing maintenance and repair activities performed by third-party contractors.
  6. Modifies or refurbishes equipment. May perform welding, braising, or fabrication of some parts.
  7. Calibrates and maintains equipment and infrastructure at and between control center and remote operational sites.
  8. Assists with the review, development, and maintenance of equipment operating standards and procedures.
  9. Trains end-users on operational procedures for passenger boarding bridge use.
  10. Ensures all systems comply with all Federal, State, City, and Local regulation, policies, procedures, and ordinances.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of safety rules, practices, and procedures when working with, repairing, and maintaining energized electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn, City of Austin and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of operation, installation, testing, repairs, and maintenance of electromechanical conveying system and passenger boarding bridge system and components.
  • Knowledge of equipment tools and materials used in electromechanical system maintenance and construction.
  • Knowledge of modern electrical, electronic, and PLC control systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory as it applies to relays and control devices.
  • Skill in the use of hand tools common to the electronic and electrical trades.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in planning and organizing.
  • Skill in using computers and related software.
  • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces where there is limited or restricted means of entry and exit.
  • Ability to test and calibrate instruments and equipment, making precise and close tolerance repairs and adjustments.
  • Ability to wear anti-fall (SRL) body harness for confined space entry or working from aerial man lifts.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees, tenants, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to subordinates, customers, and management.

 

Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus four (4) years of experience in repair and maintenance of electronic, electrical, or electromechanical controlled hydraulic equipment.
  • Experience may substitute education up to four (4) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 

Valid State of Texas Class “C” Driver License.
