Youth Program Technician

Purpose:
 

Under general supervision, this position performs tasks in developing and presenting youth programs for a library.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Develops and conducts youth programs, such as computer assistance, afternoon activities, puppet shows, story times, talks, etc.
  2. Schedules training and other public education/information classes.
  3. Compiles data/information for reports, cost estimates, etc., as requested and/or needed.
  4. Researches information as requested and/or needed.
  5. Answers citizen questions and provides assistance.
  6. Maintains project files and records.
  7. Attends meetings/seminars to stay current in job practices.
  8. Speaks as City representative before public groups, as requested and/or needed.
  9. Evaluates and recommends books and other library materials.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
 

May assist in orienting and/or training personnel in performance of job tasks.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of Library programs and activities for youth and children.
  • Knowledge of City practice, policy, and procedures.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in planning and organizing.
  • Skill in using computers and related software, including Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to plan and present effective programs and exhibits for a variety of users.
  • Ability to assist and/or train others.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
Minimum Qualifications:
 

Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus one (1) year of experience in children's programs or youth activities.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  None.
