Purpose:
 

Under general supervision, this position performs skilled maintenance painting tasks in protecting and decorating the surfaces of buildings, furniture, etc.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Records data on appropriate form/log, etc.
  2. Operates drills, buffers, grinders, sanders, etc.
  3. Paints, varnishes, seals walls, ceilings, floors, furniture, equipment, etc. using brushes, rollers, air sprayers, etc.
  4. Tapes, floats, and textures sheet rock.
  5. Applies acoustical spray to walls, ceilings and other areas.
  6. Cleans and sharpen hand tools.
  7. Mixes, matches and blends paints, stains, etc.
  8. Hangs wallpaper, fabric, and vinyl wall coverings.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
  None.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of tools and methods used in interior and external painting.
  • Knowledge of rigging and scaffolding used for painting internal and external surfaces.
  • Knowledge of City practice, policy and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in planning and organizing.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Ability to mix and match paint and selecting harmonizing colors.
  • Ability to estimate time and materials needed for specific jobs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three (3) years of experience in painting. internal/external surfaces.
  • Experience may substitute for the education up to the maximum of four (4) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  None.
