Forestry Inspector Senior

Purpose:
 

Under minimal supervision, this position evaluates customer service requests and coordinates with citizens, stakeholders, and external contractors to perform activities related to the maintenance and preservation of trees and vegetation in the Right of Way (ROW).

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Determines priority of customer service requests (CSRs) related to trees and vegetation in the ROW and assigns inspection.
  2. Prepares work orders and cost estimates for tree and vegetation maintenance work.
  3. Ensures tree and vegetation maintenance work performed by contractor is complete with specifications.
  4. Reviews and approves invoices for payment and monitors contract expenditures.
  5. Coordinates with developers and citizen groups to remove and relocate trees required for new development in the ROW.
  6. Ensures tree and vegetation maintenance is performed in compliance with applicable ordinances.
  7. Obtains permits as required to maintain trees and vegetation in the ROW.
  8. Responds to citizen complaints or feedback regarding ROW tree and vegetation maintenance.
  9. Ensures accuracy of data entered into the work order tracking system.

  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of best management practices within the tree care industry.
  • Knowledge of applicable processes, techniques, and methods.
  • Knowledge of City practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.
  • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with City employees and the public.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Ability to train and provide support to others.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Forestry or in field related to the job, plus two (2) years of related experience.
  • Experience may substitute for one (1) year of the required education up to a maximum of four (4) years substitution.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver License.
  • International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist within six (6) months of employment.
