Austin Energy Corporate Support Services Director

Purpose:
 
Reporting to the Deputy General Manager with nominal direction, responsible for oversight of Austin Energy's (AE) multiple support services business units to include Security & Risk, Facilities, Fleet, Supply Chain, Mail Room and Asset Protection Management.
 
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Plans, organizes, and directs, audits and controls for multiple disciplines aimed to protect and enhance AE's employees, customers, processes, facilities, assets and structures.   
  2. Manages organizational strategic planning, performance and process innovation.
  3. Fosters and maintains constructive property management services and relationships through site visits, customer meetings, correspondence and providing timely and effective services and responses.
  4. Analyzes employee and business needs and develops short and long range strategies, and implements action plans to meet needs.
  5. Develops corporate security measures and implements new processes.
  6. Acts as a liaison between Austin Energy and other city departments and city officials to provide solutions to complex problems and resolve difficult issues between involved parties.
  7. Develops and monitors Operations and Maintenance (O&M) and Capital Improvement Project (CIP) budgets.
  8. Ensures maintenance and life cycle management for state of the art critical systems such as medium voltage switchgear, diesel generators, Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, fire detection/suppression and building monitoring systems.
  9. Administers and maintains contracts and vendor performance to ensure deliverables.
  10. Directs compliance oversight, asset utilization, asset inventory, cost control, life cycle replacement, maximization of vendor agreements and regulatory compliance.
 
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
 
  • Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal. 
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal, state and local laws, and city ordinances and policies.
  • Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.
  • Knowledge of property and commercial lease management principles.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and standard practices of the automotive and heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of fleet management, vehicle acquisitions and asset management.
  • Knowledge of best practices in procurement, subcontracts, material planning and implementation of policy.
  • Knowledge of supply chain management, purchasing, and inventory management principles.
  • Knowledge of inventory management strategies and supply chain and logistics strategies.
  • Knowledge of fiscal planning and budget preparation.
  • Skill in developing and executing short and long-range real estate, property, security, fleet, supply chain and facilities management strategies, objectives and policies.
  • Skill in leading organizational-wide change initiatives.
  • Skill in using effective written and verbal communication to convey information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Skill in planning, organizing and prioritizing multiple assignments with conflicting deadlines in a demanding environment.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer using multiple software applications to perform complex data analysis and solve problems.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Ability to manage and lead multiple business units.
  • Ability to supervise and train others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships and communication with executives, employees, vendors and the general public.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  •  Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year college or university with major coursework in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or in a field related to the job.
  •  Seven (7) years of related experience, two (2) years of which were in a managerial capacity.
  •  Master’s degree may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience.
