Deputy Animal Services Officer

Purpose:
 

Reporting to the Chief Animal Services Officer, this position will provide administrative, program and supervisory support for the Animal Services Office . This position will develop and oversee programs and provide supervision to ensure services are being delivered to patrons and animals of the Animal Services Office.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

1. Develops and manages programs related to Animal Services and public education.
2. Conducts research of best practices for delivery of animal care and services.
3. Coordinates program activities with internal and external entities, organizations, community groups, and citizens.
4. Monitors financial and budgetary information, provides financial reports to management, and ensures utilization is in compliance with financial policies and procedures.
5. Develops and implements policies and procedures.
6. Resolves escalated customer complaints.

Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
 

Responsible for full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal

  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Knowledge of applicable processes, techniques, and methods.
Knowledge of Federal, State, Local laws, and ordinances governing animal services and programs.
Knowledge of city practice, policy, and procedures.
Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.
Knowledge of effective best practices related to animal services and education.
Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
Skill in using computers and related software applications.
Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with city employees and the public
Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
Ability to train others.
Minimum Qualifications:
 

Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university plus four years experience in a related field,  two (2) years of which were in a supervisory or management capacity.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
  None.
