Airport Facility Specialist

Purpose:
 

Under general supervision, this position provides advanced facility maintenance, security, emergency services, general and detailed cleaning and disinfecting services using heavy or specialized equipment, and moving and arranging services for the airport terminal and campus. 

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Provides facility maintenance, security, emergency services, detailed cleaning and disinfecting services, and moving and arranging services for the airport terminal and campus.
  2. Operates a variety of cleaning equipment or machinery, i.e., high lifts, scrubbers, buffers, burnishers, pressure washers, power washers, etc.; maintains knowledge in operating and cleaning equipment.
  3. Works in conjunction with airport personnel to ensure security and safety for airport facilities; ensures facility lockdown to include closets, offices, entrance and exit doors; monitors for security breaches, unattended packages, and suspicious persons and activities, etc.; and reports any unsafe and suspicious activity to airport personnel.
  4. Evacuates customers and isolates airport facilities when emergencies arise, e.g. security breaches, bad weather, fire emergencies, etc.
  5. Provides customer service to passengers, tenants, contractors, employees, and management upon request by providing solicited and unsolicited information
  6. Operates City vehicles for transporting propane, material, etc. on airport ramps.
  7. Performs administrative duties and responsibilities including completing forms, logs, personal timesheets.
  8. Utilizes biohazard clean-up methods and monitors and replaces biohazard syringe boxes.
  9. Performs cash handling duties.
  10. Responds to calls for lost and found items.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of janitorial processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)/Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations/mandates and City, departmental, State, and Local rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of FAA/TSA Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) regulations/requirements.
  • Knowledge of Airline Baggage Hygiene procedures.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with others.
  • Skill in operating vehicles and janitorial heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Skill in leadership.
  • Skill in identifying suspicious and unusual activities.
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • Ability to train others.
  • Ability to pass equipment assessments
  • Ability to communicate via two-way radio.
  • Ability to pass and maintain TSA SIDA security requirements.
  • Ability to utilize computer software.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two (2) years of experience related to janitorial services, including one (1) year of experience which was in operating of janitorial heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 

Valid Texas Class C Driver License within ninety (90) days of hire.
