Purpose: |

Under nominal direction, this position is responsible for developing strategic direction for the development, planning, engineering, capital improvement, environmental, and sustainability functions at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). This position directs the implementation of the Airport’s Capital Development Program (CDP) and Master Plan. |
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities: |

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Establishes short- and long-range goals for commercial development projects by identifying and prioritizing development opportunities.
- Represents the organization as the development leader by advocating, communicating, and supporting the strategic direction, goals, vision, mission, and values of AUS.
- Interacts with professional services, general contractors, developers, real estate professionals, business and property owners, lenders, community groups, legal counsel, elected officials, and citizen groups concerning development projects.
- Works closely with the FAA in capturing Federal Airport Improvement Program funding and compliance with Federal grant programs.
- Manages the Airport Master Plan including processing updates as needed, and any work related to ensure compliance of the Airport Layout Plan (ALP).
- Manages annual division operating budget and Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) budgets, including preparing short- and long-term spending plans.
- Represents AUS interests in aviation; technical factors; and with governmental and regulatory agencies, boards, councils, commissions, and oversight bodies.

- Knowledge of the full range of business functions and systems, including strategic development, planning, budgeting, business analysis, FAA regulations, and general airport operations.
- Knowledge of the practices and principles of airport administration, operations, and security.
- Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.
- Knowledge of reporting concepts, budgeting, purchasing, and preferred business practices.
- Knowledge of project management and internal control concepts and practices.
- Skill in effective oral and written communications.
- Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with other City employees, the public, and contractors.
- Skill in using software applications to perform data analysis for project and program controls.

- Ability to interact positively and effectively with elected officials; AUS leadership; managers; Local, State, and Federal agency representatives; contractors; tenants; media representatives; foreign and domestic dignitaries; passengers; and members of the public from widely diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

Minimum Qualifications: |
|
Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering or Architecture, Public or Business Administration, Aviation Management, Finance, or in a field related to the job, plus at least six (6) years of experience at airports, airlines, or comparable organizations, including two (2) years of experience which were in a managerial capacity. Graduation with a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for non-lead or non-supervisory experience up to a maximum of two (2) years. |
