IT Data Analyst Associate

Purpose:
 

IT Data Analyst Associates are responsible for aiding in the identification, capture, and analysis of City IT and department data. IT Data Analyst Associates assist in data conceptualization, modeling, and presentation while also helping to leverage data in a way that answers questions and solves pressing City problems.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

  2. Supports cataloging of existing data sources.
  3. Works closely with data analysts/data analyst seniors to understand City IT partners’ requirements for data use, analysis and quality.
  4. Provides support in profiling data from internal and external sources.
  5. Participates in data classification analysis.
  6. Participates in discussions for designing reporting dashboards to understand the process for building and translating data into an understandable format.
  7. Performs initial data scrubbing/compilation.
  8. Fulfills routine reporting requests.
  9. Adheres to the standards and patterns for data distribution and retention.
  10. Analyzes and interprets results using standard statistical tools and techniques.
  11. Contributes to management of central data stores and metadata to establish quality expectations.
  12. Supports the development of services and solutions to drive decision-making and action.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of data integration tools, data management architectures such as Data Warehouse, Data Lake, Data Hub Management and data exploration techniques (binning, pivoting, summarizing, and finding correlations).
  • Knowledge of analytics, visualization, and business intelligence tools.
  • Knowledge of data structures, patterns and data models and related industry-standard methodologies.
  • Knowledge of statistical software, database queries and programming languages (e.g., Java, C++, Scala, SQL, Hive, Python and R), XML, JSON and XSD’s.
  • Knowledge of Big Data concepts, frameworks, products, and tools.
  • Skill in data models and structures as well as database design tools (e.g., Visio, SQL, tec.)
  • Skill in developing data modeling, database and data management, SQL coding, program languages, data warehousing, and relational databases skills.
  • Skill in growing data analysis, data visualization, data mining, reporting, and data integrity skills.
  • Ability to engage in opportunities to clearly communicate technical concepts with clients to increase their understanding of their operations.
  • Ability to engage in opportunities to see the big picture and make decisions based on strategy and value delivered.
  • Ability to gather, assemble, correlate, and analyze facts.
  • Ability to identify data trends as well as isolated events.
  • Ability to turn data insights into recommendations for both clients and internal stakeholders based on context.
  • Ability to adhere to required compliance to all change management policies and procedures.
  • Ability to adhere to required compliance to all information security policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the job plus one (1) years of experience.
  • Experience may substitute for education for up to (4) years.
