IT Infrastructure Engineer Senior

Purpose:
 

Under limited supervision, responsible for the operations and maintenance of secure and highly available computing platforms, servers, and/or networks. Works closely with others within and outside of the team to develop processes, procedures, and solutions. Implements solutions consistent with the organization’s designed architecture plan and roadmaps.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Maintains, monitors, and supports the infrastructure environment and/or facilities.
  2. Diagnoses and resolves complex hardware, software and connectivity problems.
  3. Supports multiple systems or applications of medium to high complexity with multiple concurrent users, ensuring control, integrity, and accessibility.
  4. Provides feedback and recommendations on requirements based on health check results.
  5. Ensures processes and requirements are met such as backup and maintenance availability and security requirements.
  6. Develops new alerts and monitoring techniques based on engineering requirements.
  7. Develops scripted solutions and automation.
  8. Performs routine maintenance tasks and planning for infrastructure systems such as backups, patch management and hot fixes.
  9. Monitors system-operating capacity in terms of (e.g., disk space, storage, and CPU utilization) and recommends settings changes to the operating system to improve performance and reliability.
  10. Develops, maintains, recommends, documents, and supports tools and back-end utilities to provide capacity planning management as well as the resolution of systemic issues.
  11. Participates in, conducts testing, and coordinates feedback of test results.
  12. Provides Tier III support and is part of the on-call rotation. Occasional travel required.
  13. Monitors ticketing queue and responds to service requests or incidents.
  14. Monitors production, outputs, and services to ensure that SLAs, and other quality metrics, are being met.

Systems Discipline Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Installs, configures, and maintains virtual and physical server and software components.
  2. Collects and maintains tracking and configuration documentation and plans.
  3. Administers, creates and updates access permissions for system accounts for enterprise systems.
  4. Administers Azure, Active Directory, Microsoft 365 at the enterprise level.
  5. Administers SANs.
  6. Executes capacity management for systems.
  7. Installs and configures new storage systems.
  8. Defines process for disk space provisioning.
  9. Executes disk space provisioning.
  10. Monitors and reports on disk performance and utilization.

Network Discipline Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Installs, configures, and maintains approved telecom/network hardware and software components.
  2. Maintains structured cabling systems, telecom systems, WAN, LAN, Cellular/DAS, Wireless Networks and local Internet, remote access, VPNs, and connectivity protocols.
  3. Analyzes and implements network software or hardware changes.
  4. Establishes WAN, LAN, Wireless device profiles, device environments, directories, and security for networks being installed.
  5. May validate voice network configurations.
  6. Analyzes and resolves issues related to facilities bandwidth requirements and capacity planning.
  7. Monitors facilities’ bandwidth requirements and schedules requests for additional bandwidth.
  8. Provides support for connectivity or related network/communication issues for the user community.
  9. Monitors installed network and telecom equipment.
  10. Installation needs assessment for small to mid-size network/telecom projects, coordination and oversight of contractors and vendors for structured cabling systems, wired and wireless networks.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of Open Systems Interconnection model (OSI model).
  • Knowledge of Directory Services (E.g., Windows Active Directory, Azure AD) and Internet Protocols (E.g., DNS, HTTP, SMTP, SSL).
  • Knowledge of firewall configuration and management.
  • Knowledge of modern technologies and platforms to determine whether their applicability aligns with the business’s needs.
  • Knowledge of various network types. E.g., LAN, WAN and WLAN.
  • Knowledge of defining and implementing integration of hardware in the network, including routers, switches, power systems, and cables.
  • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure, hybrid cloud models, and platform services.
  • Knowledge of network services and networks such as TCP/IP, OSPF and EIGRP.
  • Skill in leading IoT, hardware and servers, containerization, network security, scripting & coding, automation & orchestration, configuration, firewall and security, network design, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to other technical team members but also to coworkers in other departments who may not have knowledge of networking technical terminology.
  • Ability to design, implement and troubleshoot Wi-Fi, and network security infrastructure.
  • Ability to proactively communicate the status, plan of action(s), and resolution(s) of issues.
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously from design to implementation.
  • Ability to identify, prioritize, and solve complex network-related problems.
  • Ability to secure systems by establishing and enforcing policies.
  • Ability to work comfortably in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to independently research and seek out solutions.
  • Ability to adhere to required compliance to all change management policies and procedures.
  • Ability to adhere to required compliance to all information security policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years related experience
  • Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 

Valid Texas Driver’s License depending on assignment.
