Office of the Chief Medical Officer Clinical Education Development Coordinator

Purpose:
 

Oversight and coordination of all Clinical Educational programs for credentialed providers in the City of Austin / Travis County EMS System.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Develops, reviews, and implements contemporary educational programs focused on patient care.
  2. Pursues professional development opportunities for staff.
  3. Assists in the development, review, validation and implementation of contemporary educational programs and a system-wide education plan.
  4. Facilitates/mediates inter-organizational conflicts to resolve issues.
  5. Develops and maintains a comprehensive communication structure to promulgate Office of the Chief Medical Officer educational opportunities and requirements.
  6. Chairs and provides direct oversight of the education committee.
  7. Works collaboratively with all appropriate organization staff.
  8. Participates in organizations, processes, and programs at the Local, State, and National level that support and promote principles important to out-of-hospital medical care and quality management programs.
  9. Coordinates with peer EMS Systems to develop multi-agency education opportunities.
  10. Develops in-house instructors.
  11. Provides oversight of national organization designated courses.
  12. Establishes and maintains formal bi-directional communication with various medical and emergency responder organizations.
  13. Supports and participates in system-wide scientific research projects and explores opportunities for scientific research and multi-center collaborative projects.
  14. Pursues and participates in grant opportunities.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
  None.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of National Incident Management System practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of organization practices and principals.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication, including presentations to internal and external medical staff.
  • Skill in preparation of documents and papers of publication quality.
  • Skill in computer software applications to include Microsoft windows-based word processing, database, spread sheets, email, and presentation software.
  • Ability to utilize effective problem solving, build a sense of team, lead teams and communicate effectively with coworkers, direct supervisor, other medical agency professionals, and the general public.
  • Ability to design and implement a comprehensive educational program skills section.
  • Ability to provide change management leadership.
  • Ability to educate, mentor and coach employees in a variety of styles and environments.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation with an associate's degree from an accredited college or university with at least sixty (60) semester hours in relevant course work, plus five (5) years of experience related to the job within the past eight (8) years, including three (3) years of experience which were in developing and facilitating a comprehensive education program in an EMS or medical environment.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to two (2) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 

Texas Class "C" Operator's License.

Physical Requirements:
 
  • Position involves working primarily in an office environment, but will require some work outside of the office setting, which includes exposure to heat, dust, cold, and other potentially extreme weather conditions.
  • Position requires ability to operate keyboard-based computer equipment, copy machines, various office and medical equipment and drive a vehicle.
