Purpose:
 

Under general direction of the Chief Medical Officer, this position assists with Medical Oversight of clinical care in the City of Austin/Travis County EMS System.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Serves as a physician resource for the City of Austin/Travis County EMS System.
  2. Provides direct medical control, field clinical care delivery, and development and implementation of patient-focused programs.
  3. Responds to emergency calls as needed.
  4. Performs clinical review of care provided identified by random review or specific inquiry or complaint.
  5. Develops, reviews, validates, and implements clinical policies, procedures and operating guidelines.
  6. Credentials system providers and assists in oversight of all system accreditation.
  7. Develops and delivers educational programs for all specialty areas and organizations.
  8. Participates in system-wide meetings.
  9. Facilitates and mediates inter-organizational conflicts.
  10. Participates in dialogue with partners in the medical community to explore innovative programs focused on patient care and alternative delivery of appropriate medical care.
  11. Supports and participates in system-wide scientific research projects.

  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Ability to perform the skills and procedures essential to providing patient care.
  • Ability to provide data oversight/interpretation/reporting as appropriate for performance improvement purposes.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation from a college or university accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education through the American Medical Association and the Association of American Medical Colleges, with a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree and completion of an approved EMS Fellowship or Board eligible for sub-specialty in Emergency Medical Services.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
  • Texas Licensed Physician or Osteopath (or ability to obtain within 180 days of employment) Board Certification in Emergency Medicine.
  • Texas Class C Operator's License.
  • Must be able to obtain a Texas driver license within sixty (60) days of employment.
Physical Requirements:
 
  • Position involves working primarily in an office environment, but will require some work outside of the office setting, which includes exposure to heat, dust, cold, and other potentially extreme weather conditions.
  • Position requires ability to operate keyboard-based computer equipment, copy machines, various office and medical equipment and drive a vehicle.
