Purpose:
  Responsible for providing leadership and direction for the Austin Energy operations.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

1. Direct management of all utility functions to assure adequate generation and system resources are available to meet customer demands.
2. Responsible for strategic development of Austin Energy’s policies and procedures to include managing the portfolio includes nuclear, coal, natural gas, and renewable energy sources.
3. Oversee the renewable energy programs to include the green building program and residential and commercial energy efficiency programs.
4. Plan, negotiate, organize, directs and control activities of utility services.
5. Analyze business needs and develop short and long range strategies, goals, and action plans to meet those needs.
6. Develop and monitor the assigned operations, maintenance and capital improvement program budgets.
7. Represent Austin Energy’s interests before state and national level on policy, energy, and environmental issues including, governmental and regulatory agencies, boards, council and commissions.
8. Ensure the reliability of the Austin Energy electric system and develop systems to minimize outage duration and outage frequency.
9. Provide leadership in developing and maintaining the standards of the City’s energy code for residential and commercial buildings.
10. Participate as a member of the City Manager’s Executive Team.

Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
  Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Knowledge of local, state and federal law and city ordinances.
Knowledge of renewable energy policies and energy efficiency programs
Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.
Knowledge of budgeting methods and systems.
Skill in oral and written communications.
Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
Skill in collecting, analyzing and interpreting applicable research data. 
Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities
Ability to analyze and resolve irregular events.
Minimum Qualifications:
  Bachelor’s degree in a Engineering, Business or related field plus ten (10) years of relevant electric utility experience at least five (5) years of which were in a managerial or executive capacity.
Masters degree may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience up to a maximum of two (2) years
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  None.
