Environmental Program Technician

Purpose:
 

Under general supervision; assist in receiving, identifying, segregating, and storing bulk/package hazardous waste from households, businesses, government agencies, and non-for-profit agencies (latter three brought in through CWMAP), and assist in preparing them for shipment to EPA-permitted disposal facilities.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

 1.Receive, identify, segregate, store, and prepare for shipment of household hazardous waste for recycling/treatment/disposal
2.Sets-up, break down, and clean collection facility and equipment.
3.Assist with home/off-site pickups of household hazardous waste
4.Repair and maintain equipment used at the household hazard waste facility
5.Coordinate supply/equipment delivery with facility manager
6.Develop supply needs list and inventory supplies
7.May assist with material recovery facility operations in limited instances
8.Conduct research under direction of Program manager and program staff
9.Assist program professional staff with waste diversion activities (battery recycling, scrap metal recycling, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:
 

Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, plus two (2) years of related experience in hazardous waste, environmental management, or equipment maintenance.
Related experience may substitute for education up to two (2) years
