Music in Public Places Coordinator

Purpose:
  Administer and coordinate the Music in Public Places Program.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Provide high quality and diverse music programming for target audience at City of Austin facilities, events and other related venues
  2. Communicating details of promotions, entertainment, and marketing events to all city departments, local businesses and corporate sponsors.
  3. Schedules music to be programmed on air and live performances; considers listeners requests and flow of music.
  4. Serves as resource on musical issues such as assisting staff in locating appropriate music to be used in public affairs.
  5. Responds to listeners' letters and telephone calls regarding complaints and requests for information pertaining to musical selections.
  6. Classifies and catalogs all recordings and maintains computerized music library.
  7. Participates in budget preparation by anticipating costs of new musical purchases; participates in development of long range programming objectives.
  8. Participates in fund raising and special event activities.
  9. Maintain the scheduling of performances and process payments.
  10. Developing and maintaining local and corporate sponsorships to pay for musical performances.
  11. Setup various equipment such as stage microphones, maintain sound board, and other technical equipment related to live performances.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of music history and formats, composers, compositions, performers, performances and interpretations.
  • Knowledge of radio production and recording procedures and techniques.
  • Knowledge of broadcast rules, regulations and guidelines.
  • Ability to effectively communicate
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor's degree in Music, Broadcasting, Communications or Marketing and two years related experience in musical selection;
  • One (1) additional year of relevant work experience may substitute for one (1) year of the required education with a maximum substitution of four (4) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  None.
