Senior Vice President, Electric Service Delivery

Purpose:
 

Responsible for effective and efficient planning, construction, reliability, operations and maintenance of Austin Energy's electric service delivery infrastructure.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

1.Teamwork and relationship building. Work within a team environment to develop and implement executive level policy and procedure, to analyze business needs, and develop short and long range strategies, goals, and action plans to meet those needs. Conduct negotiated decision-making to blend specific expertise into overall organizational objectives. Provide a professional example inclusive of diverse opinions and points of view.
2.Business and financial management. Demonstrate a working knowledge of financial and accounting systems used in the public electric utility industry. Develop and manage assigned O&M and CIP budgets. Recommend and as applicable, approve major purchases and expenditures.
3.Strategic planning and coordination. Conduct long-range planning in relation to the electric service delivery business unit and overall utility business implications. Coordinate implementation of new technologies as applicable based on development of solid business case applications.
4.Management & leadership. Identify and match requirements and resources. Establish and execute objectives and implementation plans. Establish processes, procedures, and controls. Comply with safety and environmental requirements. Provide personnel development and mentorship.
5.Technical credibility and experience. Demonstrate knowledge of transmission, distribution, and associated operations and communicate a high level of technical credibility to subordinates and peers. Provide written and oral technical presentations to internal and external audiences to include City Management, City Council, public organizations, boards, commissions, and regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
 

Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

Knowledge of local, state and federal law and city ordinances.
Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.
Knowledge of budgeting methods and financial systems.
Knowledge of new technologies as applicable based on development of solid business case applications.
Skill in oral and written communications.
Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
Skill in collecting, analyzing and interpreting applicable research data.

Ability to provide professional development and mentoring to assigned personnel.

Minimum Qualifications:
 

Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering, Business or in a field related to the job, plus eight (8) years of related electric utility experience, five (5) years of which were in a managerial or executive capacity.

Masters degree may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience up to a maximum of two (2) years.
