Wireless Engineering Supervisor

Purpose:
  Will perform wireless engineering duties, i.e., radio system design, analysis, and include the supervision of a small field service organization tasked with maintaining the City of Austin's public safety radio communications systems.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1.Perform complex radio system engineering calculations for radio system design, including path analysis, propagation studies and intermodulation analysis.
2.Review and evaluate moderate to complex engineering designs, plans, reports, technical guidelines, standards, specifications, etc. using engineering techniques and principles employed in the area of wireless communications for accuracy and completeness.
3.Prepare and submit FCC applications and correspondence and develop and maintain radio system documentation of accuracy and completeness.
4.Ensure City of Austin compliance with FCC and FAA rules and regulations and perform frequency coordination. Monitor wireless-related city, state and federal legislation.
5.Coordinate project activities with other divisions, departments, outside customers and contractors.
6.Manage activities and personnel installing, maintaining and repairing radio and microwave esteems.
7.Provide advice on wireless communication issues to management and advisory groups.

Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with city employees and the public.
Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
Minimum Qualifications:
  Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field plus four (4) years of experience in engineering design, planning and project management.
Experience with wireless communications technologies, VHF and UHF conventional and trunked radio systems (preferably 800/900 MHZ trunked system), and microwave radio systems. Additional experience with CAD and MDT systems preferred.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  None.
