Distribution General Operations & Maintenance Manager

Purpose:
  Under nominal direction, responsible for interfacing with Marketing to identify distributive generation opportunities in the marketplace. Confer with executives in the selection and implementation of distributive generation technology that best supports Austin Energy.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Interfaces with marketing to identify distributive generation opportunities in the marketplace.
  2. Participates in coordinating interconnection issues with identified distributive load.
  3. Stays abreast of distributive generation technology such as renewables, microturbines, fuel cells and other advancements.
  4. Pursues the interconnection with existing backup generators.
  5. Interfaces with Legal Transmission Distribution in working out terms with the distribution resources in order to have them online with Austin Energy.
  6. Develops and monitors assigned budgets
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
 
  • Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Broad based knowledge of Transmission and Distribution operations, evolving industry and regulatory developments.
  • Knowledge of Transmission and Distribution customer requirements.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulation and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of utility financial, regulatory and managerial accounting practices.
  • Knowledge of fiscal planning and budget preparation.
  • Skill in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting applicable data.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.
  • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Ability to quickly recognize and analyze irregular events.
  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent communication and working relationships with city personnel and the public
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Engineering, or in a field related to the job, plus five (5) years related experience, two (2) years of which were in a lead capacity.
  • Masters degree may be substituted for experience up to a maximum of two (2) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
  • State of Texas Professional Engineer License.
