Nutrition Education Coordinator

Purpose:
  Under general supervision of WIC program coordinator and supervise and perform work in nutrition education.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Assess nutrition education and breastfeeding promotion needs of WIC clients and desire plans for implementation.
  2. Develop nutrition education and breastfeeding promotion materials and manuals.
  3. Prepare nutrition education and breastfeeding promotion records and reports.
  4. Direct nutrition and breastfeeding in-services and education programs.
  5. Conduct nutrition education staff meeting and plans for professional staff development.
  6. Coordinate nutrition students and volunteer activities in WIC program.
  7. Direct breastfeeding peer counseling program.
  8. Review reference materials.
  9. Plan and conduct outreach activities.
  10. Present nutrition and breastfeeding information to community groups
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
 
  • May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of social and economic problems affecting family size.
  • Knowledge of human nutrition and lactation in health and disease.
  • Knowledge of adult education principals and low literacy needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain effective relationships with staff and public.
  • Ability to examine and evaluate nutrition status and needs of the target population.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Masters degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to food and nutrition, dietetics or community nutrition plus three (3) years of experience in a field related to dietetics at least one (1) year of which was in health related.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
  • Registered as a Dietitian by the American Dietetic Association and licensed by the State of Texas, certified lactation
