Public Health Educator II

Purpose:
  Under general direction, coordinate and prioritize health program presentations and education needs of the community
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Develop, evaluate and coordinate plans, criteria, etc. for variety of projects, program activities, etc.
  2. Train personnel.
  3. Assist in developing performance evaluations.
  4. Write informational reports.
  5. Speak as city representative before public groups.
  6. Conduct needs assessments.
  7. Evaluate programs for effectiveness & accomplishment of goals.
  8. Evaluate needs assessment data to determine course of action i.e. training, new program, etc.
  9. Develop & conduct public information & education programs.
  10. Design visual presentation materials.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
  None.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of training methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of appropriate community resources for client referral.
  • Knowledge of epidemiology, infectious diseases and the appropriate treatments.
  • Knowledge of functions and operations of interrelating departments, divisions and agencies.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory agency requirements.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of the laws and regulations governing communicable disease control.
  • Knowledge of contract language.
  • Skill in resolving problems or situations requiring the exercise of good judgment.
  • Skill in effective oral and/or written communication.
  • Skill in effectively communication and dealing with the public.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with other City departments, employees and the public.
  • Skill in maintaining records.
  • Skill in preparing clear and concise written reports.
  • Skill in giving public presentations.
  • Skill in self-study and in the completion of assigned training.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to health education, nursing or health related field, plus three (3) years of experience in a field related to health education. 
  • Related experience may substitute for education up to a max of four (4) years
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
  • Appropriate certifications as specified for the assignment.
