Duties, Functions and Responsibilities: | |||
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned. 1. Manages, reviews annually, and makes recommendations for the quality assurance program, procedures, audits and training ensuring compliance with guidelines of appropriate accrediting bodies and division policy 2. Keeps abreast of changes in accrediting body guidelines 3. Manages the Division’s Laboratory Information Management System 4. Manages, reviews, evaluates and monitors the safety program and section inspections 5. Evaluates the laboratory programs, assessing the quality of analyses and crime scene activities, 6. Reviews and evaluates case folders, and instrumental data 7. Determines compliance and makes recommendation regarding analytical procedures 8. Reviews, evaluates, and determines adequacy of equipment, databases, and laboratory records 9. Evaluates, composes and validates specifications, bids, equipment orders, delivery and installation 10. Responds to questions from personnel 11. Keeps informed on the latest techniques for forensic analyses 12. Ensures that routine maintenance and equipment checks are being conducted according to schedules 13. Monitors training programs, court appearances and proficiency testing 14. Recommends employees for independent casework |

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: | |||
Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed. Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles Knowledge in quality assurance and quality control analysis and procedure Knowledge of modern forensic laboratory equipment and procedures Knowledge of criminal law and criminal court proceedings and rules of evidence Knowledge and understanding of department rules, regulations, policies and procedures Skill in the use of laboratory equipment and materials Skill in oral and written communications Ability to train and monitor the performance of division personnel |

Minimum Qualifications: | |||
Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in management, natural science, or a field related to the job, plus five (5) years experience in forensic science, crime scene activities, laboratory analysis, quality assurance, three (3) of which were in a supervisory capacity. |

Licenses and Certifications Required: | |||
Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License
