Commercial and Key Accounts Manager

Purpose:
 

Responsible for leading and managing professional staff to maintain excellent relationships with Austin Energy’s (AE) Commercial and Key Account customers. Provide strategic direction and oversee communication with commercial customers regarding rates, reliability, product sales, and new programs. 

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Develops and executes strategies to maintain excellent customer satisfaction with AE’s Commercial and Key Account customers.
  2. Develops sales strategies and manages professional staff to sell the suite of technical energy products and services and to promote corporate initiatives.
  3. Builds excellent relationships and represents AE leadership in dealings with Key Account customers, Commercial customers, customer groups and associations, stakeholder groups, and others.
  4. Develops and enhances staff’s knowledge of the utility industry, technical aspects of the industry, utility operations, and knowledge of products and services.
  5. Designs and implements outreach plans for Commercial and Key Account customers to improve customer awareness of programs and increase customer satisfaction ratings.
  6. Manages direct communications with Commercial and Key Account customers during times of severe weather or other emergency events.
  7. Develops, negotiates, and oversees significant contracts for products and services, ensuring tariff and guideline compliance, customer satisfaction, and performance by professional staff.
  8. Follows all safety protocols and actively supports the safety of all employees in the workplace and in the field.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
 

Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities, including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, discipline, and recommendation for dismissal.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of electric utility and energy services products, technologies, and trends.
  • Knowledge of sales techniques, market segmentation, and forecasting customer demand.
  • Knowledge of business to business market segments, market behaviors, and value drivers.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws, ordinances, and policies.
  • Skill in communicating technical information to colleagues, customers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Skill in resolving problems or situations requiring the use of good judgment.
  • Skill in written and oral communication.
  • Ability to effectively manage a team to achieve sales goals for a portfolio of highly technical products, services, and programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers and stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively direct, coach, and train others.
  • Ability to understand unique business and financial related requirements of large businesses.
  • Ability to work various shifts, on-call and call back hours, typically in support of outages or energy emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Business Administration, Engineering, Marketing, Liberal Arts or a field related to the job, plus eight (8) years of related experience, including two (2) years of experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Graduation with a Master’s degree in Business Administration from an accredited college or university or Professional Engineer (PE) license may substitute for up to two (2) years of the required related experience, not including supervisory experience.

Physical Requirements:
 
  • Must be able to view a computer screen and possess the manual dexterity required to operate a personal computer on a frequent basis.
  • Occasional outdoor activity, sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Must be able to travel out of town for meetings or conferences.
