Under general direction of the Health Authority, oversees the surveillance and bio-terrorism activities among the various health/human services units |
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities: |
|
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Plan goals and objectives of surveillance and assist with goals of bio-terrorism activities.
- Observe efficiency and effectiveness of program operations, and make recommendations concerning improvements.
- Coordinate and evaluate responses and investigations for possible disease clusters.
- Determine the course of action from the staff's collection, analysis, interpretation and dissemination of data.
- Implement specific disease outbreak control measures as described in the Communicable Disease Prevention and Control act, including vaccine preventable and other communicable disease conditions.
- Evaluate programs to determine compliance with Federal, State, local and departmental regulations.
- Assess program financial needs and collaborate in budget preparations.
- Provide consultation and technical assistance related to assigned program area to other agency and institutional programs.
- Assessment of patient through communicable disease signs and symptoms, specimen collection and screening, and interpretation of lab results to establish public safety needs.
- Refer patients and families to other services or for follow-up treatment based on assessment of health care needs.
- Conducts follow-up investigations and documents supplemental data during a major or emergency communicable outbreak.
- Assure surveillance records are maintained, accurate, and completed.
- Provides accurate data to the Texas Department of Health in a timely manner.
- Serve as a resource for staff, community providers, the community, and others by providing advise about communicable diseases and bio-terrorist agents.
- Promote assigned programs through the media, public meetings, and presentations by emphasizing community-based prevention practices, statutory requirements, and the methods of reporting.

Minimum Qualifications: |
|
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing plus four (4) years experience in hospital, clinic, or public health nursing, plus one (1) year of which were in a lead or supervisory nursing capacity
|
Licenses and Certifications Required: |
|
- License to practice nursing in the State of Texas.
- Must have current healthcare provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card and will be required to maintain current certification during employment
