Survey Supervisor

Purpose:
  Under limited direction, responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing surveying related activities on behalf of the City.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

1. Performs land surveys on behalf of the City.
2. Supervises and/or prepares, signs, and seals land survey plats and exhibits in accordance with state statutes.
3. Prepares and/or oversees the preparation of survey data gathered by field crews to ensure completeness, accuracy, and to satisfy legal claims.
4. Oversees survey workgroup and project activities on behalf of the City.
5. Develops or modifies work plans, methods and procedures, determines work priorities and develops schedules to provide adequate staff coverage.
6. Supervises, prepares, and reviews legal descriptions for properties, plans, ordinances, easements, and/or agreements.
7. Represents the city in boundary disputes, property title issues, and land ownership litigations.
8. May administer and coordinate contracts, contractors, and/or vendors.
9. May train others.

Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
 

Performs full range of supervisory responsibilities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Knowledge of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
Skilled in using various Global Positioning Surveying (GPS) applications
Skilled in the collection, analysis, and reporting of complex numerical data.
Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
Ability to properly maintain complex engineering files and records.
Ability to read and interpret maps, plats, sketches, field books, and construction drawings.
Ability to adhere to the principles and practices of the Professional Land Surveying Practices Act.
Ability to effectively lead others in the workplace.
Ability to use a hand-held calculator.
Minimum Qualifications:
 

Five (5) years of experience as a Registered Professional Land Surveyor two (2) of which must have been in a supervisory or management capacity.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
 

Must be a Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) in good standing with the Texas Board of Professional Land Surveying (TBPLS); or have the ability to become licensed within six (6) months.
