Vehicle Supervisor

Purpose:
 

Responsible for supervision of department's fleet maintenance and acquisition activities.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Develops long- and short-range plans. Develops vehicle and equipment operation policies. Manages operations and maintenance of the department vehicle pool.
  2. Communicates with vehicle schedulers regarding work assignments. Monitors safety issues for work group.
  3. Interprets and enforces City ordinances policies, procedures, and specifications.
  4. Develops vehicle/equipment surveys, studies, and reports by monitoring vehicle and equipment rentals, leases, and related contracted services and utilization based on mileage and frequency of use.
  5. Investigates citizen complaints concerning operation and/or abuse of vehicles or equipment.
  6. Researches, writes, issues, and implements specifications for all vehicles and equipment for replacement and/or new purchase requirements. May include developing detailed drawings of required equipment/vehicles for vendor clarification.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
 

Responsible for the full range of supervisor activities including selection, training evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of department vehicle and equipment assets.
  • Knowledge of City of Austin vehicle/equipment policies.
  • Knowledge of nondestructive testing procedures for aerial lift equipment.
  • Skill in using a Fleet Management System.
  • Skill in using applicable business software applications.
  • Skill in benchmarking department fleet operations to selected entities.
  • Ability to use ANSI standards related to aerial devices.
  • Ability to comply with City of Austin purchasing policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
 

Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three (3) years of experience in a field related to the job, including one (1) year of experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.

  None.
