Purpose: |

Under general supervision, collect blood samples from patients for laboratory tests. |
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities: |
|
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Collect blood samples from adult and pediatric patients for laboratory testing.
- Receive and organize requests for blood collection.
- Distribute blood to proper laboratory section after collection for testing.
- Gather supplies and equipment necessary for collection of blood samples.
- Clean laboratory glassware or other equipment.
- Keep blood collection area and phlebotomy rays clean and restocked for future use.
- Record blood collection statistics for documentation

Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Knowledge of medical laboratory operations.
- Knowledge of phlebotomy procedures and techniques.
- Skill in obtaining blood specimens from patients under a variety of patient conditions.
- Skill in accurately recording information concerning specimens.
- Skill in understanding and following written and oral instructions.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with hospital

Minimum Qualifications: |
|
- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus six (6) months training or experience in phlebotomy collections
|
Licenses and Certifications Required: |
|
None.
|
Physical Requirements: |
|
Moderate. Tasks involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying, or using a force equal to lifting up to fifty (50) pounds. |
