Radiologic Technologist

Purpose:
 

Under general direction, perform a variety of x-ray procedures for diagnostic purposes.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Perform diagnostic x-ray procedures for the program or service with digital x-rays and picture archiving and communication system (PACS).
  2. Maintain x-rays according to established practice, policies and procedures.
  3. Schedule patients for x-rays in support of clinic activities and/or referrals from other sites.
  4. Maintain equipment using quality checks, arrange preventive maintenance as indicated.
  5. Order/issue supplies and parts as needed, assure adequate inventory is maintained.
  6. Assure that x-ray services are in compliance with licensing, inspection and safety requirements.
  7. Push/pull stretcher to transport patients.
  8. Compile data reports for management review by designated deadlines.
  9. Assist in developing and revising operating procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of city practice, policy, procedure, statutes, ordinances, and criminal law.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of physics and related physical sciences as applied to x-ray techniques.
  • Knowledge of patient scheduling techniques.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Skill in operating x-ray and other radiological equipment.
  • Skill in positioning patients to achieve accurate radiological tests.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
  • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with city employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation from an accredited training program in x-ray technique and procedure
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
  • Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or other recognized association.
  • Medical Radiologic Technologist Certification from the Texas Medical Board.
