Security Guard

Purpose:
 

Guard property against damage, fire, theft, trespassing, and illegal entry. Periodically patrol premises; examine doors, windows, and gates to ensure that they are properly secured. Verify identity of employees and other persons entering the building. Inspect and properly store equipment. Develop incident reports of damage, theft, or unusual occurrences. Investigate disturbances and in the event of an emergency maintain order and safety of occupants.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Picks up stolen property and handle loss and found items.
  2. Operates, repairs, and maintains equipment/reports maintenance problems.
  3. Provides delivery/courier services
  4. Conducts safety inspection of ,facilities, i.e., fire extinguishers, life/safety equipment, etc.
  5. Performs situation assessments and investigate work incidents
  6. Identifies, assists, and gives clearance to entering patrons
  7. Provides security and assistance to the public and various law enforcement agencies
  8. Issues parking citations
  9. Administers first aid
  10. Provides training
  11. Conducts security patrols at locations, parking lots/garages, and surrounding areas for unsafe conditions and reports them as necessary.
  12. Responds to fire alarms, security alarms, and accidents - contacts appropriate emergency personnel.
  13. Investigates disturbances and in the event of an emergency, maintains order and safety of occupants.
  14. Provides customer service and acts as a source of information and assistance to inform the public of information regarding Library services, programming, policy and regulations.
  15. Anticipates, de-escalates, and solves problems and/or provides reports to appropriate agency.
  16. Monitors welfare of security personnel working after-hours, overnight, and at remote assignments.
  17. Provides direction and training to security personnel, contract employees, and other City departments regarding Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and other training areas.
  18. Issues and enforces Criminal Trespass Notices for violations and determines if police assistance is needed.
  19. Completes and maintains incident reports and other routine documentation.
  20. Directs traffic and provides crowd control and security services for after-hours events held by internal and external customers.
  21. Transports and safeguards cash pick up and drop offs at all locations.

Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus one (1) year of experience in a field related to the job.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
  • May require a valid Texas Driver License.
