Real Time Energy Market Operator Senior

Purpose:
 

Under minimal supervision, leads, monitors, analyzes and responds to real time market operations and generation dispatch.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Performs Qualified Scheduling Entity (QSE) functions including operation of computerized energy market systems providing network analysis, short term load forecasting, generation dispatch, capacity optimization, and bidding.
  2. Determines generation requirements, issuing dispatch instructions to power plants to include unit start up/down to meet market operations.
  3. Analyzes data to discover patterns &/or discrepancies by reviewing pricing trends and determination of any revisions to loads, daily load forecast, ERCOT systems, and generation abilities for meeting energy demands. Calls out support staff as needed.
  4. Monitors and responds to market conditions and changes dispatch schedules as required.
  5. Monitors weather conditions for dispatch impacts and revises schedules and bids.
    Coordinates ERCOT instructions with power plant operators to meet market demands by determining generation requirements or load forecasts.
  6. Conducts short term purchases and sales of energy, capacity and ancillary services to meet market operations.
  7. Runs day ahead market activities as required by reviewing forecast functions and makes any necessary adjustments for resources allocation, bidding and fuel requirements.
  8. Supports fuel purchases and scheduling to optimize real time assets.
  9. Responsible for following all ERCOT and NERC operating protocols and guidelines to ensure compliance under applicable regulatory bodies.
  10. Communicates and records critical market operations information.

  • May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of procedures and methods used in energy market operations.
  • Knowledge of power plant or transmission system dispatch operations.
  • Knowledge of ERCOT and / or NERC operating protocols and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of EECP and Black Start processes.
  • Knowledge of power trading, power markets and dispatch economics.
  • Knowledge of renewable generation characteristics and dispatch economics.
  • Knowledge of electric generation fuel markets.
  • Skill in training and monitoring of work.
  • Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations.
  • Skill in the use of software and equipment required to dispatch generation facilities.
  • Skill in anticipating forecast deviations for operating plan and portfolio adjustments.
  • Skill in effective oral and written communication.
  • Skill in maintaining records.
  • Skill in analyzing data.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts.
  • Ability to obtain applicable ERCOT or NERC certifications.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus four years related experience.
  • Associates degree Business, Electronics Technology, Public Administration, Communication or relevant field may substitute for the two years of required experience.
  • Education may substitute for experience up to four (4) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
  • NERC or ERCOT System Operator Certification
