Power Plant Control Instrument Electrical Technician

Purpose:
  Under general supervision, perform tasks related to maintaining, installing, calibrating and troubleshooting digital, electronic and electrical system components, and their input and output devices, used to control, power and operate power plant equipment.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Develops job schedules/scopes
  2. Programs and installs flow computers, analyzers, recorders, etc.
  3. Reads blueprints, ladder logic diagrams, wiring diagrams, etc. to troubleshoot, locate or reroute equipment
  4. Uses test equipment to detect motor bearing wear, cracked rotor bars, misalignment
  5. Disassembles and reassembles complex electrical equipment, voltage regulators, large motors, valve operators
  6. Plans work, identifies necessary tools, parts, labor and sequence of events for most efficient/productive completion of work
  7. Troubleshoots complete control systems, analytical equipment and electrical systems to locate malfunctions & defects down to component level, repair and replace as needed
  8. Installs and accurately documents installation of microcomputer components and peripherals, new control and indicating systems, new electrical supply components, etc.
  9. Analyzes and interprets data to discover patterns &/or discrepancies
  10. Designs & fabricates tools, equipment, parts, etc.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
 
  • May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of power plant systems, processes and components including electronic, digital and electro-hydraulic equipment used to control, monitor and operate systems
  • Knowledge of various analyzers, i.e. CO, 02, CEMS, pH Silica, chromatography
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in electronics, electrical technology, instrument and control technology, or related to the job, plus three (3) years experience in a field related to calibration, repair, and maintenance of electronic, electrical, or control equipment.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to two (2) years
