Meter Services Representative Lead

Purpose:
 

Under general supervision, responsible for lead duties overseeing field crew responsible for reading and collecting ground data (including cuts off or turns on, visual inspection of the meter) for both electric and water meter related activities within the City of Austin Utilities service areas.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Provides leadership and training to field crew, serves as the liaison between supervisor and staff.
  2. Tracks assigned budget area to ensure compliance with purchasing standards is met, and inventory levels are appropriate for the business.
  3. Ensures completion of daily assignments and scheduling of work for field crews. Augments staff by performing metering activities for electric and water utility customers, including disconnecting and reconnecting water meters, and de-energizing and energizing meters (below 600 volts).
  4. Resolves customer account discrepancies at the meter site, and appropriately communicates findings with the customer and internal workgroups.
  5. Organizes routes using the appropriate technology, to document water leaks, identify and assist with hazards in the field, and report unsafe meter conditions.
  6. Performs visual inspections of meters, identifying any potential tampering or problems with the meter. Cuts off or turns on electric and water service as directed.
  7. Assesses the accuracy of the customer account by providing the meter reads to the Electric Utility Meter Service Investigator for further review.

  • Knowledge of metering requirements and theories.
  • Skill in operating assigned equipment and vehicles.

  • Skill in using laptop computers and related software applications.
  • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.

  • Ability to quickly recognize and analyze irregular events. Ability to communicate with customers.
  • Ability to read electric and water meters accurately.
  • Ability to properly lift and carry items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Ability to carry and grip steel tools, and to grasp, reach, pull, or push meters
  • Ability to perform strenuous work in all types of weather conditions.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three (3) years related experience.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
  • Valid Texas Class C Drivers License
