Infection Control Program Manager

Purpose:
  Responsible for the development, delivery, and coordination of a comprehensive infection control program that includes, but is not limited to prevention, education, equipment evaluation, exposure follow-up, reports, and records management.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Provides technical assistance for requests for information on infectious diseases and their control.
2. Coordinates twenty-four(24) coverage for exposure/infection control consultation with appropriate personnel.
3. Maintains the system’s immunization program, including immunization qualifications for vaccine administrators, maintains the system’s tuberculosis testing program.
4. Provides technical assistance and guidance in the development of appropriate infection control education and training.
5. Assists system organizations with the establishment of standards for personal protective equipment, and the cleaning and disinfecting of equipment
6. Manages and oversees the system exposure program.
7. Collects and presents quality assurance data on the system infection control program.
8. Conducts education and training on infectious diseases and prevention.  Investigates suspected infections within the departments that may affect communal living and patient safety.
9. Conducts reviews of the Infection Control Manual, Clinical Operating Guidelines for Infection Control, and personal protective equipment to ensure they reflect current research, laws, regulations, and accepted medical standards
10. Assists with community-wide pandemic flu planning, suspect disease outbreaks, clusters and disseminating disease advisories.
11. Participates in networking opportunities with area hospitals, health agencies, and other health professionals including school nurses and infection control practitioners.
12. Serves as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) in the establishment, documentation, and maintenance of written agreements, letters of understanding, and contracts with providers and agencies for infection control services, serves as the primary liaison with regards to infection control issues with the EMS system Medical Director, and serves as the System "designated officer" as required by the Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Act of 1990 (PL 101-381).

  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Knowledge of organization processes, techniques, and principles.
Knowledge of ICS/NIMS practices and principles.
Skill in designing and implementing a comprehensive Exposure Management and Infection Control education program.
Skill in oral and written communications.
Skill in leadership fundamentals.
Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
Skill in using computers and related software applications.
Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
Ability to educate, mentor and coach employees in a variety of styles and environments.
Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with medical agency professionals, the general public, and city employees.
Minimum Qualifications:
  Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Nursing, Biology, Public Health, Environmental Science, or Medical Technology, plus three (3) years of work experience as an Infection Control Officer or related field.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  Valid Class C Drivers License
