Office of the Chief Medical Officer Clinical Practices and Standards Coordinator

Purpose:
 

Develops, coordinates, and oversees the Clinical Operating Guidelines in pursuit of quality care and patient safety. Oversees first responder programs for the City of Austin/Travis County EMS System as co-coordinator.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Coordinates, facilitates, and/or develops additional system-defined programs, projects, initiatives, and workgroups.
  2. Develops Clinical Operating Guidelines for all system-credentialed providers.
  3. Assists in the development of credentialing written examinations.
  4. Oversees and manages first responder organization licensing.
  5. Oversees and coordinates new clinical equipment initiatives.
  6. Assists with coordination and conducting of EMS training programs/courses.
  7. Serves as co-liaison to various medical and emergency responder organizations.
  8. Analyzes clinical data to identify areas of improvement for patient care/patient outcomes.
  9. Develops and manages system for data collection and presentation.
  10. Provides patient care as a clinician at the direction of supervisor or department director.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of organization practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of National Incident Management System practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of current concepts and techniques in out-of-hospital patient care.
  • Knowledge of current concepts, techniques, and trends in quality improvement and performance assessment.
  • Skill in oral and written communications.
  • Skill in leadership fundamentals.
  • Skill in designing and implementing a comprehensive educational program skills section.
  • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with medical agency professionals, the general public, and City employees.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, plus one (1) year of experience related to the job, including experience in performance assessment/improvement.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to two (2) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
  • Valid Texas Class “C” Driver License.
  • Texas Department of Health certification as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (EMT-P) or being eligible for reciprocity at that level.
Physical Requirements:
 
  • Position involves working primarily in an office environment, but will require some work outside of the office setting, which includes exposure to heat, dust, cold, and other potentially extreme weather conditions.
  • Position requires ability to operate keyboard-based computer equipment, copy machines, various office and medical equipment, and to drive a vehicle.
