Electrical System Controller Aide

Purpose:
 

Under direct supervision, perform routine tasks in assisting Electric System Controllers in daily switching activities, tracking field crew locations, monitoring and reacting to electric power system needs and resolving customer issues.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Dispatch trouble calls to field personnel. Assist in monitoring, troubleshooting and providing solutions to problems in electric transmission and distribution systems.
  2. Operate radio, phone and pager systems for communication with work crews and/or to distribute system information.
  3. Communicate with internal and external customers during routine business and system restoration events.
  4. Record data on appropriate form, system and/or log for tracking of crews, work assignments and electric grid systems monitoring.
  5. Observes and learns control room functions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Basic knowledge of operations, maintenance or construction activities involving power transmission or distribution systems.
  • Working knowledge of radio and telephone communication procedures and practices.
  • Skilled in using computers.
  • Skill in effective oral and/or written communication.
  • Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations.
  • Skill in reading schematic drawings.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Ability to work scheduled 12 hour shifts.
  • Ability to regularly respond to unplanned overtime including extended shifts, call back or unscheduled days
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus one (1) year experience with power transmission or distribution systems or utility administrative work with emphasis on radio and/or telephone communications with field personnel and the public.
  • Associates degree focused on GIS, power, and computer technology or other related filed may substitute for one 1 year experience.
