Purpose: |

Under general direction of the Park Ranger Division Manager, oversees the planning, development, policy and outreach efforts of all Park Ranger units. |
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities: |
|
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Manage Park Ranger operations and Natural Resource Management services.
- Responsible for running complex programs and projects, managing scope, recommending changes, identifying potential crises and devising contingency plans.
- Develop short and long range plans.
- Develop and evaluate plans, criteria, etc. for a variety of outreach projects.
- Design and deliver engaging, well-organized presentations.
- Recommend major purchases and acquisitions, developing specifications for price, product and services.
- Establish, manage, and review contractual purchasing agreements and procurement procedures.
- Pursue, plan and track grants, and other fundraising opportunities.
- Establish, monitor, and prepare reports on financial measurements, streamlines and recommends updates these measurements as practical.
- Develop and implement processes, procedures, and policy throughout the division.
- Initiate, foster and maintain positive collaboration with internal and external agencies, community stakeholders, and volunteers.
- Assess complaints and follow through on best course of action for resolution.
- Create and facilitate Park Ranger recruitment and succession plans.

Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Knowledge of Park Ranger functions, duties and responsibilities.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and practices.
- Knowledge of departmental regulations, city ordinances, state laws and federal laws.
- Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.
- Knowledge of fiscal planning and budget preparation.
- Knowledge of Park Ranger equipment and training.
- Knowledge of contract development and monitoring.
- Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedure.
- Knowledge of indigenous and non-indigenous flora and fauna.
- Knowledge of geography, geology, climate and natural history.
- Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
- Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
- Ability to lead and conduct public outreach and interpretive program development.
- Ability to communicate in verbal and written formats to a variety of audiences.
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priority.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other city employees, citizens and stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications: |
|
Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field related to the job, plus five (5) years of experience in an area related to Park Rangers, two (2) of which must have been in a lead, supervisory or managing capacity. Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years. |
