WIC Site Specialist

Purpose:
  Under general supervision, serve as a lead professional to analyze, plan and provide the delivery of health nutrition services for designated clinic with large cliental population. 
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

1. Administer lead responsibilities for day to day activities for clinic with large cliental population.
2. Liaison between clinic and Program Supervisor including notification of clinic staffing, supply and equipment needs, report incidents/accidents, and address and resolve complex customer complaints.

3. Assist Management in developing appointment schedules for designated clinic including additional hours, maximizing resources and ensuring Scheduling Center has the most current schedules which include adjusting staff assignments.

4. Assist Management in developing regular and temporary staff work schedules based on business needs.

5. Assist Management with the research, development and implementation of internal standardized process changes that guide and support WIC services.

6. Assist Management with developing and implementing action plans to resolve customer service complaints and quality assurance issues which may include planning and developing customer service satisfaction analysis.

7. Assess income and nutritional needs to determine eligibility for WIC Program according to Federal, State, and local policies and procedures. 
8. Deliver group and individual nutrition and breastfeeding education according to agency approved Nutrition Education Plan.
9. Perform participant income and health screenings which includes obtaining ID, residency, and health history, measuring height, weight and length of WIC client and plotting on growth grid, calculating income and BMI, performing finger stick and determining conditions of nutritional need.
10. Prescribe supplemental food package, assess need for breastfeeding pumps and supplies, and issues in accordance with Federal, State and Local policies and procedures. 
11. Screen immunization record to obtain immunization status.
12. Refer participants to appropriate community, health and human service resources as needed.
13. Issue and maintain inventory of returned formula, breast pumps and supplies, and educational material according to policy.

  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
• Knowledge of lead techniques and principles.
• Knowledge of Federal, State, City, and local policies and regulations that pertain to WIC services.
• Knowledge of principles and practice of nutrition, breastfeeding physiology, anatomy, and counseling and training techniques.
• Knowledge of public health programs, social services and client needs.
• Skill in providing nutrition and breastfeeding education and excellent customer service and support.
• Knowledge of quality review practices and procedures
• Skill in handling multiple tasks, organizing and prioritizing.
• Skill in using computers and related software applications.
• Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
• Skilled in engaging stakeholders and facilitating accurate requirements to capture and manage stakeholder’s expectations.
• Ability to assess current operations on an ongoing basis
• Ability to work with frequent interruptions.
• Ability to train others.
• Ability to communicate information and ideas, effectively, clearly and concisely with others.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Food and Nutrition plus two (2) years of experience in a field related to Nutrition or Dietetics and one (1) year of which were in a lead or supervisory capacity.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • Valid Class C Texas driver’s license.
• Completion of certification in Peer Counselor Training course.
• Completion of all required WIC modules during the probationary period.
