WIC Training Coordinator

Purpose:
  Under general direction, responsible for coordinating quality assurance process and for developing, coordinating, delivering and assessing training programs for the HHSD WIC Unit.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Designs and performs needs assessments to identify and analyze major organizational problems and assess training needs of WIC staff
2. Develops, implements, and evaluates training plan for WIC program staff.
3. Develops and implements QA plan for agency; including conducting and/or coordinating audits, ensuring corrective action plans are developed and implemented and coordinating follow-up.
4. Registers staff for appropriate trainings, submits required travel paperwork if needed, and coordinates clinic coverage.  
5. Documents staff trainings and monitors completion of monthly and other required trainings.
6. Collaborates with management to gain knowledge of work situation requiring training for employees to better understand changes in policies, procedures, regulations and/or technologies.
7. Writes/drafts/reviews program policies/procedures and routine correspondence, etc. 
8. Assists in planning short/long range goals and projects.
9. Coordinates University and volunteer requests for placements and assignments in WIC clinics and completes required Human Resource paperwork and evaluate on for students. 
10. Collects requests to apply for the DSHS Dietetic Internship, completes interviews and makes recommendation for top candidate.  For agency staff enrolled in the DSHS Internship, coordinates management rotation and completes evaluation.
11. Responds to research project requests informing and complying with the City and DSHS process, reviews project to determine feasibility, communicates/coordinates with Medical Director’s Office and DSHS.

Knowledge of principles and practice of nutrition
Knowledge of public health programs and client needs
Knowledge of basic training and learning principles
Knowledge of instructional systems design methods
Knowledge of applicable regulatory agency requirements.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Knowledge of charting standards and/or records management
Skill in oral and written communications sufficient to clearly convey and receive information and ideas
Skill in delivering training
Skill in handling and prioritizing multiple tasks
Skill in resolving problems or situations requiring the exercise of good judgment.
Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with other City departments, employees and the public.
Skill in maintaining records.
Skill in preparing clear and concise written reports.
Skill in giving public presentations.
Ability to train others
Ability to work with frequent interruptions
Minimum Qualifications:
  Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to Food and Nutrition, Dietetics or Home Economics, which includes twelve (12) semester hours in food and nutrition plus three (3) years relevant work experience.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  May require licensure as a Nutritionist or Dietitian.
