Purpose: | |||
Performs administrative duties related to incoming telephone calls, prepare correspondence, manage office documents, and organize the file system related to housing, employment, and public accommodation discrimination complaints and conduct employment intakes and process those intakes filed with the City of Austin Equal Employment/Fair Housing Office in the Human Resources Department. | |||
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities: | |||
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned. 1. Interpret Federal, State, and local laws/ordinances concerning discrimination in employment, housing, or public accommodation 2. Receive phone inquiries or walk-in complaints of discrimination in employment, housing, or public accommodation 3. Greet and assist with preliminary complainants to determine nature of complaint 4. Analyze data gathered during the investigation to determine the merits of the complaint 5. Confer with involved parties to negotiate settlement of complaints 6. Prepare recommendations for Administrator approval concerning unsettled complaints 7. Compile and analyze complaints and other available data regarding discrimination to identify potential trends or problem areas, and provide recommendations to management for preventive and/or corrective action 8.Coordinate new programs as assigned by the Administrator 9.Collaborate and participate on teams of co-workers, compliance personnel from Federal or State agencies, or other assigned members |

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: | |||
Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed. Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws/ordinance concerning discrimination in employment, housing, or public accommodation Skill in oral and written communications sufficient to clearly convey and receive information and ideas Skill in basic interviewing and intake technique under a variety of conditions, including the possibility of highly charged emotional demonstrations such as hostility, conflict, and frustration Skill in the application of investigative and research techniques Skill in researching established case law and applicable precedents Skill in performing thorough and accurate data collection and analysis Skill in the use of basic computer applications in word processing, spreadsheets, email, and data management |

Minimum Qualifications: | |||
Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration or related field plus three (3) years of experience in compliance reviews or investigative techniques. One (1) additional year of experience may substitute for one (1) year of the required college education up to a maximum of four (4) years. |
