Wireless Master Site Engineer

Purpose:
  Under the direction of management, integrates the Greater Austin-Travis County Regional Radio System (GATRRS) master site including planning, design, installation, maintenance, management, and coordination of wired and wireless local-area and wide-area networks, inter-radio frequency subsystem interfaces, gateways, antenna systems, security systems, databases, clients, and subscriber equipment.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Plans, designs, installs, maintains, manages, and coordinates wired and wireless local-area and wide-area networks, inter-radio frequency subsystem interfaces, gateways, antenna systems, security systems, databases, clients, and subscriber equipment.
2. Provides local area and wide area network engineering, integration, and coordination services for a large regional integrated voice-and-data radio system.
3. Provides engineering services for the design, construction, installation, testing, operation and maintenance of wireless communication technology.
4. Integrates, coordinates, operates, and maintains system master site controllers.
5. Develops design documents and plans.
6. Develops and implements technology architecture standards, specifications, procedures, emergency response plans and criteria.
7. Develops and maintains documentation of wireless communication systems.
8. Assists in the preparation and evaluation of Requests for Proposals.
9. Researches and recommends new communication network systems technologies.
10. Manages project resources, schedules, quality, deliverables, teams, and methodologies.
11. Communicates project status, issues, and/or concerns to management, team members, and stakeholders.
12. Defines integration needs with other projects and legacy systems/processes.
13. Reviews and/or selects vendors and monitors contract compliance.
14. Prepares and delivers presentations.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
  Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

• Knowledge of radio frequency engineering principles, practices, and methodologies.
• Knowledge of wireless communication technologies, including trunked radio.
• Knowledge of fiber-optic systems and technologies.
• Knowledge of information technology networking and network security best practices.
• Knowledge of Federal Communications Commission and Federal Aviation Administration regulations.
• Skills in troubleshooting wireless and wired communications systems.
• Skills in oral and written communication.
• Ability to manage and complete projects within the required time frame and within budget.
• Ability to exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy in all public dealings.

Minimum Qualifications:
  Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in electrical engineering, information technology, computer science, or a field related to the job, plus four (4) years of related experience, two of which were in a supervisory capacity of wireless radio technicians.
 
• Experience may be substituted for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.
