Vehicle Support Specialist Senior

Purpose:
 
Under limited supervision receives and inspects new and turned-in vehicles and equipment, processes the units and makes them ready for issue to City departments or for auction, as required.
 
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Opens work orders, records vehicle information, and closes work order when work is complete.
2. Advertises retired units for auction, monitors unit sales and updates unit status in the automated fleet management system.
3. Receives and inspects new and turned-in units and identifies vehicle needs.
4. Processes units by creating and applying or removing vehicle graphics, installing or uninstalling after-market accessories, and performing basic maintenance and/or fabrication to prepare vehicles for receiving department or auction.
5. Obtains specifications from customers for after-market accessories, solicits bids and coordinates with vendors.
6. Communicates with customers to answer questions and provide information.

May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training and guidance to others 
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Knowledge of the mechanical and/or technical nature of the units supported by the department.
Knowledge of quality control processes and procedures.
Skill in oral and written communication
Skill in using computers and related software applications essential to the business
Skill in organizing and coordinating workflow
Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals
Ability to understand to perform multiple tasks and work within specified time lines
Ability to interact with tact and courtesy and maintain a professional demeanor
 
Minimum Qualifications:
 
Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three (3) years of experience in a related field.
 
Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years.
 
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
Requires a Class "C" driver's license. 
 
If required, must obtain an appropriate Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within ninety (90) days of employment with the City.
 
Equipment Hand Tool Requirements
 
An incumbent must provide his or her own hand tools including, wrenches, sockets ratchets, toolbox, etc. as a condition of employment.
The individual must meet the minimum hand tool requirements within six (6) months of employment.
