Fitness and Wellness Program Coordinator

Purpose:
 

Under general direction, this position manages and coordinates fitness and wellness programs and services. 

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Develops, coordinates, and/or delivers fitness and wellness program strategies, activities, and services.
  2. Serves as liaison and an expert resource for fitness and wellness program services, polices, procedures, and practices.
  3. Develops policies, procedures, and processes.
  4. Researches, designs, improves, and promotes best practices and processes.
  5. Coordinates activities with internal and external customers.
  6. Develops, implements, and measures outcomes, program performance, and fiscal accountability.
  7. Responds to and resolves sensitive inquiries, complaints, or issues.
  8. Leads cross-functional teams and serves on related committees.
  9. Coordinates and implements candidate physical ability testing.
  10. Trains fitness specialists, peer fitness instructors, and health educators.

Provides leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of leadership and program management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, customer/personal service, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of municipal government budget planning, preparation, and public administration.
  • Knowledge of public relations, marketing, and public information concepts and practices.
  • Knowledge of research techniques, methods, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Local laws, government regulations and guidelines, and department procedures.
  • Skill in providing guidance to employees.
  • Skill in the application of program management practices.
  • Skill in the analysis and interpretation of department issues.
  • Skill in training, mentoring, and coaching staff.
  • Skill in operations forecasting and strategy design and implementation.
  • Skill in projecting long-range goals.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with City officials, representatives of business and governments, City employees, and the general public.
  • Skill in communicating effectively orally and in writing, including public speaking.
  • Skill in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
Minimum Qualifications:
 

Graduation with a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university, plus seven (7) years of experience in a field related to the job.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
 

Must obtain the following within one (1) year of initial employment date:

  • Peer Fitness Trainer.
  • Peer Fitness Instructor.
  • Automatic External Defibrillator.
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Basic Life Support.
